SOCA (described as Britain's FBI) has evidence that numerous "bluechip companies", law firms and wealthy individuals have been hiring criminals to hack phones and emails just as the News of the World got itself closed down for doing. It is, however, refusing to name the perps for fear this might "substantially undermine" their financial viability.

Such consideration, such tenderness of heart!  It fair brings a tear to your eye.

So can we expect this same courtesy to be extended to your everyday mugger, shoplifter and benefit fraudster?

It's going on here, as well. I think this is why Snowden is such a big deal... not because of what he obviously is saying, but I think the implication is that the government is selling/trading/sharing this info with private individuals and corporations. It hasn't been said yet, but it's obvious to me.
