My mother says, "My life is being taken away from me. It's horrible." She's pushing to do as much as she can for herself- which is good. She's also pushing to cancel the installation of a downstairs shower- which is bad.

We're going home for a few days. I need the break. Ailz would rather stay in Kent because going home means having to send time with Dot.

Oh dear. I will try to talk to her...
Have a lovely time, back home. I sent you an email yesterday, by the way.

Thanks for the email. Yes, perhaps you can persuade her of the desirability of a shower. The surveyor is coming out a week on Thursday I think.

I've just felt the cold breath of age-related deterioration myself in the past month: I've lost height, I'm losing my hearing, and my blood pressure is up. I have great sympathy for your mother. And for you, as caring for an angry/frightened old person is wearing.

Thanks.

I believe I'm shrinking too. Leastways I used to be taller than Ailz and now I'm not. :(

As my late MiL discovered in her last couple of years, stubborness will only get you so far and I speak as one of that Taurean breed myself.

You can't simply face down old age.

Sympathies. I get similar from my Dad, though he's going in the opposite direction and seems to think he's going to die next week. Unfortunately -- or fortunately, depending on which way you look at it -- there's really nothing terribly wrong with him and though he's 92, he could live for years yet.

Thanks.

My mother is 92 as well. She's pretty plucky and upbeat most of the time.
