We came home when we did- only a fortnight after first going down- because yesterday was the anniversary of Eric's death and Ailz felt morally obliged to sit in vigil with her mother.

That's why I went into Manchester by myself to meet Keith. I rode the buses for free because I'm over 60 and have an old person's travel card. I don't use it often but whenever I do it fills me with glee.

May last year was beautiful. May this year is rainy and squally with brief sunny spells. Yesterday, just before I left for town, we had a hail storm.

We return to Kent tomorrow- carrying lots of things we like- including the rabbits. We've been taking steps to ensure we'll have Internet access down there. Who knows, we may even persuade my mother to go on line. I feel sure she'd like it if she tried.

All this shuttling between Kent and Manchester is a bit disorientating. I woke up several times in the night wondering whether I was here or there.

Do you have those dreams where you walk around a corner in the Kent house and find yourself in your Oldham living room?

The shuttling must be so discombobulating. You're very good to do it.

I don't remember anything quite like that, but perhaps those dreams will come.

Thank you for thinking so well of us but our motives aren't entirely selfless. There are distinct advantages to this arrangement. For one thing we'll be living within striking distance of London- and Brighton and Canterbury and all sorts of interesting places. Whenever we get the chance we intend to have us some fun.

The elderly ladies who own Brith have just got new computers. B (who is 95 and reasonably computer literate) has bought a new laptop. M (who is 90 and who has never had a computer before) is the proud owner of a tablet.

If you are thinking of something for your mother, I definitely suggest an iPad or similar. It will probably do everything she needs and they're really easy to use.

Thanks.

My mother is very smart and bright but has hitherto resisted computing. We'll see what can be done for her.

Reading your comment, yes, there are loads of perks to living down in Kent.
:)
Still, it will be a hectic solution shuttling back and forth between Oldham and Kent sometimes and you're good to do so.

I'm glad you're taking the bunnies with you if Kent will be more your home base than Oldham for a while.

Ailz loves driving. Four to five hours on the road is something she relishes.

My mother has several sheds she doesn't use and I've cleared one of them to receive the rabbits. The guy who sees to my mother's garden has said he'll cobble together a run for them. Thy should love it. There's lots of lawn.

Well you certainly will be driving to a lovely part of the UK, the garden of England.

Yes, it's where I spent most of my teens.

Though, arguably less so now - I was quite surprised to read how endangered the hops trade has become in Kent, and thereby, the UK.
