Stuart Hall
May. 4th, 2013 11:19 amThe Mail had a quote from Stuart Hall's autobiography. Apparently as a young man he turned down the chance to become a professional footballer because the wages wouldn't have been enough "to keep me in tarts and fags".
Tarts, fags- same thing really- two of life's little pleasures.
Is that his view of women? I suppose it must be, because if he saw women as persons I don't think he could have done the things he did and lived to 83 being all jolly and such.
Did he never feel a twinge of self-disgust? Never feel tempted to put a gun-barrel in his mouth?
His youngest victim was 9.

Date: 2013-05-04 01:13 pm (UTC)Stuart Hall was a smart guy- smarter than the shows he appeared in. He knew he was doing bad things and he did them anyway. In some ways I find him scarier than Savile. Savile was clearly odd- a person whose sexuality was mysterious but plainly not mainstream- but with Hall there were no warning signs. He was a jolly uncle- a bit fruity perhaps but not in "that" way. I don't think I'd have trusted my kids with Savile but I'd have trusted them with him.
