This is the Richard III Tea Rooms in Scarborough.  I'd like to think the King stayed here (as legend says he did) but I can't help wondering why he would want to when there's a huge castle sprawling across the hill above.

Whether Richard stayed there or not, that is a lovely old building. Houses are less draughty than castles.

Richard's name on the sign is money in the bank. One historian (Tony Pollard) called his portrait "the face that launched a thousand novels."

Looking forward to Monday's announcement with bated breath. Then we can move him from the "legend" column to the "archaeology subject" column and let him rest in peace wherever they bury what's left.

I'm blowed if I know why we love him so, but we do. Perhaps it's not in spite of the bloody Tudors but because of them.

I'd like for him to lie in York Minster but Leicester Cathedral probably has a stronger claim.

Scarborough is a cheery 19th century seaside town and its a surprise to come across an authentic medieval building nestling amongst the souvenir shops and cafes and arcades.
