Whiteness

A couple of my friends have complained about the new LJ friends page. They say the whiteness hurts their eyes. I don't exactly have that problem, but I do think the new look is uglier and- well- less friendly than the old design. I like the blue background. It's restful. For as long as it remains available to me (do I enjoy that option because I've got a permanent account?) I'll be choosing to revert to it.

I'm having to use a basic account to make LJ function at all- the plus account is now so smothered with ads as to be unuseable. This means I'm lumbered with the white response and composition pages which are slow, clunky and don't load userpics at all consistently, don't type at all cleanly and sometimes just vanish with an almost complete composition on board.
Trying to access friends' posts is a nightmare at times and LJ's accessibility is still up and down like a yo yo.

I can still get my light brown blog pages at present but if that ceases, I'll have no choice but to migrate completely. I just wish LJ would listen to their users for once! :o(

I wonder if people at Lj are noticing the widespread discontent. I posted this in the hope it might catch someone's eye.

They're noticing all right- it's just that the Russian owner guy doesn't give a stuff and accuses his users of whining.

He'll learn when the whole bang shoot goes belly up under him.

I agree - no personality. I like my nice soothing faux-parchment look.

They seem to be making changes for the sake of change.

I haven't noticed any changes, but I read LJ via my friends page and I have that set to be in my own style -- which happens to have a white background because that's how I like it! :)

My particular loathing is dark text on a dark background because it's extraordinarily difficult to read.

Pale text on a coloured background can be pretty devilish too.

Hm. Am I the only lj user who actually likes the new friends page? I might be!

(But yes, I wish lj would just... WORK, dammit!)

You're the first I've heard from :)

Huh. Well, I'll agree that it's dull and boring, but I also find it easy to read, easy to follow, and when it works, it's fine.

(the "when it works" part seems tricky, though.)

Posting answers to comments is a bit like wading through treacle this afternoon.

When they're done testing it and implementing changes, the background will be changeable regarding colour and such. But I still don't like it and want to keep my own style.
:/

Well, if they'll allow us to choose the background colour that'll be an improvement.

Well you don't have to have the Friends page in white

I didn't realise that. Good news.

I'm actually fine with the new friends page. I figure I'm here to read what people have written, without distraction ... not to look at a bunch of pretty colors.

People with eye conditions have been telling me the new page hurts.

I think I've been lucky so far. I haven't seen the new friends page at all. (I get the new posting page, but I can revert back to the old one.)

I think it has to do with the style we're using more than our membership status? I know last time LJ made a major change, I didn't see it at all because of the style I use. (Which is great, I love my view of LJ as-is and hope it continues to not change.)

Every so often the new friends page pops up without my wanting it to and I have to hit the button that takes me back to the original.

I guess it does depend on the style of page you have set up. You can switch between new style and old style on the Friends page, and if you do not not want the whiteness go into your customize page and set up a new theme. I occasionally change my page as i use to have a pen and ink theme on my page, which stays the same on my Friends page. Hope this helps.

I've never had any problem getting back to my old page with its nice blue background but some people seem to be having difficulties. I dunno.

I'm one of those ones whose eyes hurt.

I really do wonder sometimes of LJ change things just for the sake of it. I hope we get to choose which option we want to stick to and that the new page isn't the only option in the long run.
