I now own a mitten with a scraper embedded in it (Ailz bought it from eBay or Amazon or some such) and I got to use it on the car for the first time this morning. I was pleased to see the heater in the rear window is working again; it wasn't broken, merely discouraged. The temperature out on our street- which never gets any sun in winter- is Minus Five.

It actually feels warmer than it did- probably because the air is dry.

It's come up a two or three degrees here in the deep southeast to just below zero!

I believe a warm front is on its way

Cold from the east and warm from the west. It gets interesting for the met types trying to work out where they'll clash, 'cos that's where the snow will be!

Hopefully not here!

Ah, the joys of being an island nation. :o)

This year I may have to turn the air conditioning down again to light a fire in the fireplace for Christmas. :,

It's odd how "northern" our Christmas traditions all are- given that Christianity started out in the Mediterranean. I suppose we have the Victorians to thank for this.

Charles Dickens (my home town author) is the guilty party. He grew up and came to young manhood in a 'mini ice age' so to him, all Christmases were always white and he, in a sense, wrote the 19th century Christmas. :o)

Me too!

I'll be on my traditional annual read of 'A Christmas Carol' shortly.

Cloisterham (Rochester) is my native town. :o)

My Dad used to work there.

I spent 7 years in Upstate New York. We would have a period every winter when it got to be -20c for usually about 10-15 days in a row.

I do not miss it.

It never gets that cold over here, thank goodness.

You say?

In Stirling two Christmases back, we got down to -20 on Christmas Eve!

I've never been to Stirling. If it gets that cold I think I'll wait for summer until I go.

I had one of my Brit friends over for a visit one Yule. She was completely astounded. It was normal for us.
