Maple Leaves

These are also strangely lovely: not that I am surprised to find them so, but the ways in which they are lovely are strange.

I don't think I've ever seen Maple leaves go speckled like that. Of course we don't have Maples here so my memory may be failing me.

What species of maple are these, if you know? It's colouring is quite a bit different than that of the species which we see in central Canada.

Must be some native stock. I've seen a Japanese maple or two around here (very rarely, someone will have planted one as a decorative), and their leaves have been quite distinct in shape -- more like cannabis leaves than the typical maple shape -- and, from what I've seen, they tend to turn bright red in Fall.
