The funeral director suggested we put that soppy "Footprints" thing on the back of the service sheet. We all agreed.  After she left the room (to tot up the bill) Dot said how much she hated "Footprints" and Ailz and I said we hated it too. When she came back we told her we'd have the 23rd Psalm instead.

When we met with the FD for my mother's funeral, back in February, he gave us a couple of boxes of cards that he said we could use for thankyou notes afterward, you know, for people who sent flowers or brought food... I was planning to do exactly that, until I opened one of them. Instead of being blank inside (with nice woodsy picture on front to match our service bulletins), the cards were printed with some tacky little poem (rhymed verse, rather)! No thanks! (And, I've yet to write more than two or three of the thankyou notes. But probably with death, as with weddings, you get a grace period...)

Bad verse- especially bad, sentimental verse- sets my teeth on edge.

Oh, what a fabulous McFerrin-filled future you have ahead of you!! ;-) The events I love the most are those in which he gets an audience performing the parts of instruments as well as vocalists... there's a video somewhere of such a scene (in Boston, maybe?), outdoors, where he performs Ave Maria with the crowd... The guy can do outrageously wonderful things with his voice. When I first became aware of him, I had a very young nephew who was always making noise with his mouth, it was actually quite annoying especially for his parents -- and I thought "This must be what Bobby McFerrin was like when he was little, only magnified!"
