Trivia

I was woken in the early hours by a metallic squawk. It was repeated four or five times- sometimes nearer, sometimes further away. I have no idea what it was.

Later I got up to go to the bathroom and Ailz asked me to look out the window and see if it had been snowing. I said "Yes."  I was wrong. The white stuff was just a very heavy frost.

We entertain a lot a starlings. There were ten or eleven round the feeder last time I looked. They're hard to count because they move around so much.

Ailz will only drink tea that's been brewed in a pot, whereas I prefer to whap a baggie straight into the cup. She's getting sick of her normal coffee so I dug out our pot and fired it up this morning. I can't tell the difference, but I suppose she thinks she can. If you don't mind the second cup being lukewarm and stewed a pot makes the tea go further.

Tea

Me, too. I always read the leaves afterward.

Ha. I use tea-bags- even in a pot

An eloquent argument for matrimony!

Yes indeed.....:)

I have a lidded cup with a removable porcelain infuser. The leaves have plenty of room to expand, same as a pot, but the cleanup is easier.

Here's an example, from Amazon. Our local Asian grocery sells them with various interesting designs, and cheaper of course.

That's neat.

And here, I thought all you English brewed tea only from leaves and only in a pot. Disillusioned, I am! ;-)

I'm afraid most of the tea sold in Britain these days comes in little bags.

Couldn't the squawk have been a starling?

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2012-02-02 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think so. It was too loud and too machine-like.

But they can imitate doorbells and bicycle bells -

I hadn't thought of that. You could be onto something...

I wonder what might make a metallic squawk? I know next to nothing of British birding.

We either have no starlings or dozens at a time. I heard a noise outside, a couple of days ago, and investigating found an entire flock devouring the berries on the English Ivy.

I don't think it was a bird- or anything living, but I could be wrong.

Starlings are entertaining- the way they strut and squabble.

And their flight and moot are amazing - and their amazing skill at mimicing noises -
