We called in on Odi on our way to Somewhere Else and found her in a terrible state because Peter had tried to strangle her and she'd called the cops and now the Home Office and whoever else is responsible are engineering a separation. If they decided to put Peter on the next plane to Cameroon I wouldn't in my present state of uncharitableness care very much.

Thus far we haven't gone Somewhere Else.

We spent the morning at her place, then came home for lunch.

And now Odi has rung to say the authorities are going to be calling round this afternoon to pick up Peter's shit and she's as OK as she can be expected to be- and we're free to go Somewhere Else (which we really need to do)....

I don't expect to be writing here until next week....

Wow. It can be exhausting to be involved in someone's life, eh? (I say that in all seriousness, having had some experiences that feel similar.)

What? The? Hell?

I'm glad Odi and the kids are physically safe. Y'all are good friends to her.

Just in time for the holidays, too.

Happy Christmas, Tony!

We're fine, thanks.

It was unexpected. Peter has been violent in the past, but he and Odi have been through counselling and Odi had given us to understand eveything was fine- only it wasn't.

It looks as if the authorities may now move Odi and the kids as well as Peter- presumably so he won't be able to find them.

These things tend to blow up at Christmas. The pressure of having to play at happy families puts an especial strain on those who arent.

Happy Christmas to you too (a little late).

Yes, a terrible strain. You and Ailz are good people, being there for Odi and the kids like this.

Gosh - only just caught up on this, via the mention in your most recent post. (Guess I must have missed it due to Christmas rushing around). Poor Odi. :-( I'm glad to hear that the incident is being treated seriously, and that she is now being moved somewhere safe and far away from Peter, but it would have been nicer if that could have been achieved without the trauma and violence she's just been through. I hope she will have the sense to treat the relationship as completely over now, and not try to contact Peter again from wherever she ends up living next. And I'm very sorry for you and Ailz that you will lose what is obviously one of your most valued local friendships. I hope you'll be able to keep in touch with her.

I was away in London and only skimming LJ, so I missed this and have just picked up on what happened because of the reference in your recent post.

It's such a shame that Odi has to move away from her friends and the people she knows at such a stressful time. Unfortunately, as you say, unless they do deport Peter, it's the only way to stop him coming back to find her. :(

Odi is a person who makes friends easily- and I hope she'll soon have a support network in Liverpool. Otherwise- I don't know...

The wheels grind on. We're in touch with both of them. Today we're taking Odi some stuff she left behind in the house.

I think a clean break is too much to hope for. He has her phone number and she has his (unfortunately). I think the next few weeks are going to be emotionally messy.

Oh dear - that's a downside of these days of mobile phones, of course. I hope there isn't too much unpleasantness.
