Living With Diabetes

 Ailz gave a filmed interview on her diabetes this morning. The material will be cut into a short film for presentation to a medical conference- mainly of GPs- in Barcelona. It was a paid gig- and the company sent a car to transport us to their HQ in Wilmslow and back.

Ailz has started taking more care of her condition. She's now eating a GL diet- low on carbs and sugars- which means I'm working from a new cook-book. Today for lunch I made a mushroom risotto- only with barley in place of rice.

Ailz has had type 2 diabetes for a long time. It runs in the family; her father and brother are also diabetics. She manages it with diet and metformin.

The GL diet cuts out sugars and carbs. Thus far none of the meals I've prepared have been particularly heavy in protein.

It would be good if she could also lose weight.

If she *is* successful in that, she should start to see some very dramatic improvements in her diabetes, and a lot of other physical things also. I'm convinced it's the single most important thing someone with our challenges can do for themselves.

Not for aesthetic reasons. She's a beautiful woman just as she is.
