Yesterday the temperature dropped to -4. Today it's at -1. We're having to go out in it to collect stuff from the storage unit. I have a roll of coconut matting I spread on the ice so Ailz can walk to and from the car.

The laminate in the small front bedroom is down, the laminate in the small back bedroom is mostly down. Work is beginning on our bedroom today. The other big bedroom is so jam-packed with furniture that the only way to feed the rabbits- who live down the far end-  is to stand on a stool and lob bananas over the barricade.

England won the second Ashes Test. Hooray!

One of my neighbours decided to pour hot water out the window (ground floor flat) to melt the ice on the path.

Brilliant idea - the path now resembles a skating rink. Good thing I have lots of sea salt, isn't it?

I admire the initiative, but not if it means breaking my neck! :)

Round here they're also using hot water to defrost their windscreens, which- I would have thought- risks cracking the glass.

The City of Seattle tried that with brine during a recent snoswtorm. This was the result.

I hope you were able to safely negotiate your path!

Slow motion ballet!

Our roads are OK- once you get off the side streets.

It really has a certain elegance, doesn't it? From a safe distance, of course! I was particularly taken with the slow inevitability of the Metro bus creaming the utility pole.

(The funny thing is that I used to live around the corner from where this was filmed, and the balcony the videographer stood on was within the line of sight of my window. I watched similar scenes from a different angle during more than one winter storm. The buses always wipe out in that block!)

I love the image of you lobbing bananas over the barricade.

:)

The barricade's down now- and its component parts have been redistributed....

That is one fine sentence, and a great mental image!

Is that -4 C or F?

Either way, but especially if C, it's a horrible number.

I've never heard of coconut matting. Intriguing.

Centigrade.

It's untimely. We don't normally get this sort of weather until after Christmas.
