I Still Can- Just

I climbed over a gate yesterday. Twice. It was about the height of my chest and had no bars to use as foot-rests, so I hauled myself up using the strength of my arms. I didn't need to do it; I could have got to where I was going another way; but I wanted to prove I still could.  When I reached the top I wobbled a bit and could easily have toppled over and cracked my head. There was no-one watching so I wasn't showing off- except to myself.

Woo-hoo! Congratulations.

Thank you.

That's wonderful!
:)
I know I can't do that with my bad joints.

You never know until you try.

My joints certainly weren't happy with what I was forcing them to do.

Well, know that you have verified that you *can* "still just"...

Cut it out!

Sound advice :)

That kind of accomplishment is the best, seriously! Because nobody's there to pick at your dismount, or to scold that 'at your age...' nonsense. You did it! You didn't break anything! Nobody mocked! Go you!

I've never believed in acting my age- whatever that means.

You've got to be careful out there - otherwise you could break major bones and end up in a rehab (nursing home) for a long period of time until you heal.
I care.

I was about your age when I gave my bicycle to my son, who needed a new one. The bike had thrown me on my head, and I saw the "writing on the wall".

I haven't ridden a bike in ages. They say you never forget. Mind you, I was never that good at it. I have a vivid memory of toppling off on a straight stretch of road- and then lying there watching as a very large car bore down on me. Suddenly everything was happening in slow motion....

The car swerved to avoid me, honking its horn. The driver didn't think to stop and see if I was OK.

I know, I know. It was a silly thing to do, but.....:)

It's the stuff you're getting too damn old to do that keeps you as young as you are.

That sounds like a bumper sticker but it seems that it's literally true.

We're all still kids at heart, I think.
