Counting Down The Hours

There were a lot of fireworks last night- including some especially bangy ones just after one o'clock. Did I miss some event of national or international significance?  Did Pakistan win gold at the Winter Olympics or something?

I felt really miserable yesterday- seriously on the verge of tears.  I don't know why.  It can't have been anything deep-seated because I feel much cheerier today, even though, see above, I didn't sleep well.

We're going on holiday soon-  to France- with Ruth- to visit Matthew at CERN.  Ailz has packed the bags, and there's nothing much left for me to do but count down the hours and make some chocolate fridge cake (my current speciality) to eat on the train.

Chinese New Year, perhaps?

CERN and chocolate fridge cake both sound cheering.

Chinese New Year. Maybe. There must be Chinese people living in the neighbourhood.

Will you have internet access in France?
Don't forget your camera.
Hugs for the tears than nearly were

Thanks.

I don't know if I'll have internet access. Probably not.

But I'll certainly be taking my camera.

Some days are just that way. I'm glad you're better today!

Thanks. Yes, it's the human condition- or something like that....

It's Chinese New Year so yes, that would have been the fireworks.
Some days are just infused with melancholy.

What a good holiday! Are you going on the Eurostar or flying?

We're going on the Eurostar.

Definitely the Chinese New Year. I'll be spending all day today in Chinatown myself, watching the street shows and dodging firecrackers, then to a restaurant for a Chinese feed.
The Chinese do what the Germans do at their New Year -- make lots of noise to drive away evil spirits. We do a bit of that too, with our First Night fireworks displays.
France! You are so fortunate! Have a lovely trip, and Happy Valentine's Day to you and Ailz.

Thanks. We'll be staying up on the Swiss border- near Annecy.

We had Chinese New Year in Bray yesterday - drums and lanterns and what have you - there is a substantial Chinese community in Bray and they were all partying!

Manchester has, I believe, the largest Chinese community outside London.

It's the lunar New Year. Which meant I could buy moon cakes from the bakery in Lexington.

I don't believe I've ever seen a mooncake. I imagine them covered in white icing- with craters.
