We remembered it was Shrove Tuesday (it was, wasn't it?) and made pancakes for tea. Pancakes are the northern European medieval peasant's idea of a good time. I like mine with lemon juice and sugar.

Shrove Tuesday always makes me think of Brueghel.

I hadn't heard of those before. They sound delicious.

There is a large Polish population in Detroit, and I first encountered them when I lived in Michigan (Ypsilanti).

The nearest I've come to eating Polish was on a trip to Czechoslovakia- as it then was- in 1990.

We have them in northern and western Connecticut as well. Hit or miss on where you can find them. Despite my lack of Christianity, I enjoy lent as a season. I tend to get a lot done (since my lack of current Christianity does nothing to check my abundance of Lutheran upbringing) during lent.

Britain acquired a large Polish population when the EU was enlarged in 2004. Suddenly there were Polish shops everywhere.
