We went out for a walk yesterday afternoon with Ailz on her new mobility "scooter"- which is a kind of wheelchair with attitude. We had reached just about the furthest point on the planned circuit- near the top of the ridge on the far side of the valley-  when the scooter broke down. We tried everything we could think of and none of it worked, so we rang Ailz's dad and he came and rescued us. Later- when we were safely back home- Ailz rang the people we bought the machine from and their switchboard guy drew our attention to the restart button. We pushed it and the lights came on again. What had happened was the motor had over-heated on the hill and needed a rest. And the moral of the story is "always read the handbook first".

Oh, how annoying! The first thing to check when a bike won't start is the kill switch, but it's amazing how often you forget and end up with a nice AA man pressing it for you...

It's like the time we got an engineer out to fix the boiler- which had been cold for three days- and he walked in and flipped on the wall switch....

Or, as we say around here, "When all else fails, read the instructions..."

If only they came printed on the side of the machine.....

Yes. I'm one of those people who just shoves the instruction manuals in a drawer and then gets aggravated when things won't work properly.

I'm glad you got rescued!

Ailz is going to LOVE that chair! Several of the people in my building have them. They can walk - a little - but not much. The chair is a perfect solution to being able to get out and about.
I am glad for Ailz.
It would be just terrible for me if I were "grounded" so to speak, so I understand how nice this is for Ailz - and you, too, because you can get out more together for "walks".

Ailz's dad only lives a couple of streets away from where we got stranded.

We've had electric wheelchairs before- but they've been unwieldy things. This is a lot lighter- and easier to handle.
