Whenever we hear the word "holy" these days- holy city, holy mosque, holy man- it seems to be in the context of people being killed.

I wonder what we mean by the word "holy". Does it have any content at all?

Perhaps we should stop using the word "holy" and substitute something neutral like "religiously significant". Why do we have to play along with the language of religious fanaticism?

OK, seriously, I agree with you, although I wouldn't denigrate holiness because of this. After all, things are "holy" if they are beyond reason, and it is in the realm of passion where people can do great harm ... or create things of great beauty.
