When I was a kid I had this idea that it would be really cool to make a scale model of the whole world: every building, every interior of every building, every single, goddam detail...

There's a story by Borges where some ruler makes a map of his country on a scale of one to one.

I rather think he spreads it out over his kingdom. But since it's only parchment it doesn't last very long.
