I was reading in Der Speigel how Kristkindlmarkets have become very popular in England. And there's a huge one in Chicago every year, too- which I really must try to visit.
Now THAT is what I am talking about when I say Boston disappointed me this year. Downtown usd to be all dressed up for the season, but now there is a gaping hole in the ground where Filene's Basement used to be, with construction at a standstill. Of the five major department stores that used to grace the corner of Winter and Washington Streets, all are gone, except for the Jordan Marsh Building which was taken over by Macy's. The Filene's main building still stands, but has been gutted for a someday condominium conversion project. Yuck! Your downtown Manchester does it right!
