The Northumbrian coast is castle after castle. Here are two with Shakespearian associations. Dunstanbrugh belonged to John of Gaunt and Warkworth to the Percys.

Dunstanbrugh. That's an ace surfing beach, by the way.

Warkworth. The keep went up in 1400- in the lifetime (just) of the famous Harry Hotspur- and is more residential than defensive.

Dunstanburgh is rather wonderful and remote. There are some fantastic fish & chip shops along the coast too.

Nice pix. I wish we'd had time to get that close.

The fish certainly ought to be freshly caught.

It's a bit of a hike along there, but worth it.

Bamburgh Castle is also rather nice, and there's an excellent beach.

I grew up in that part of the world (well, Newcastle) so feel rather lucky to have seen quite a lot of the Northumbrian castles. I do like a good castle.
