Husthwaite
Driving south, we spotted a road sign pointing to a 12th century church. Ailz wanted a coffee break and I wanted Romanesque arches so Ruth made the turning and we ended up in the village of Husthwaite- which is Saxon for "house in a clearing".
The pub was friendly and there was a grand view from the churchyard of the Kilburn white horse- the most northerly of such hill figures. It isn't an ancient tribal totem. It was created in 1857.

What's odd it that something like this seems to have more of an impact on me than pre-historic artifacts, or Egyptian/Greek/Roman art and architecture. Go figure.

Clouds are easy. All you have to do is make sure your light metre (mine is built in and automatic) is set to read the sky. In practice, this means making sure you keep the horizon low.
Yes that's rape. There's a lot of it about. I suspect it's being grown for bio-fuel.
