I've put on half a stone over the last year. I know why: it's because I used to walk everywhere and now I don't. I used to say I liked walking everywhere, but if that had been really true I would still be doing it, wouldn't I- car or no car?

The question is, should I fight to regain my previously trim figure or accept the plumping up as an unavoidable symptom of the ageing process?

And, no, before someone suggests it- wild horses wouldn't succeed in dragging me to the gym.

Well I'm sure not one to tell you what to do! (Except maybe, when you are out walking, put the half-stone back where you got it... *hehe*)

Yes. You're right. I need to take action.

We both do. I have gained 17 pounds in two years, even though I thought I was being careful about diet. Once I took inventory and saw that it was a trend, that each year I was gaining more and that less and less of my clothes were fitting me, I decided to get really serious.
I wish you well. It is not easy, but I am certain it's for the best. After all, we want to live into our nineties, dont we?

We've got a pedalling machine- one of those ones you can work from the depths of an easy chair. I've placed it in front of my chair in the living room as a constant reminder and challenge.

I have my exercise bike parked in front of the TV; I try to watch worthwhile things while I'm on the bike, but more often than not get sucked into MTV (which ordinarily I _hate_ but which has the benefits of fast music to pedal to and lots of barely clothed people with super slim bodies to suggest the (un)likely outcome of my pedallings).

May the Force be with you!

I find it's difficult to pedal and read, but to pedal and watch TV is a cinch.
