Charlesworth Congregational church- otherwise known as "Top Chapel"- was built in 1797. There's been an independent congregation worshipping here since 1611- hence the claim that it's the "longest continually worshipping free church in England." One of it's early members sailed on the Mayflower. See here for more information.

In 2006 the minister of Top Chapel was found guilty of forging the wills of two elderly members of the church. He was given 240 hours community service.

Lovely building. Looks like some great views from the other side.

Our house is a converted congregational church although very unsympathetically converted and without a graveyard. They built nice and four square, but seemed to be a pretty straight laced lot. The line "worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness" was painted on what is now our bedroom wall, and there was a harmonium where our TV is now.

Yes, the chapel is about 750 feet above sea level and the view is terrific.
