So Castro resigned and Musharraf's party lost the election. It's one of those days when the world seems to be spinning a little faster than usual.

I always had a soft spot for Castro. He was a despot who gave the impression of actually caring about his people's welfare. Now he's gone the truth will out and we'll be able to assess what he achieved or didn't achieve and Cuba will- presumably- finally emerge from its time-warp into the twenty-first century world. 

As for Pakistan- that's one unhappy country and a new government won't necessarily change things for the better. But, hooray- anyway- for an election that wasn't rigged!

Friendly amendment: Pakistan's election wasn't rigged *enough*. Which is to say, apparently Musharraf did a lot of work ahead of time trying to bias procedures for his party, and he apparently thought it was enough to clinch the election, but he didn't count on the sheer strength of anti-Musharraf sentiment, nationwide.

But he stays on as president, I believe. I wonder how long that arrangement will last.
