So Castro resigned and Musharraf's party lost the election. It's one of those days when the world seems to be spinning a little faster than usual.

I always had a soft spot for Castro. He was a despot who gave the impression of actually caring about his people's welfare. Now he's gone the truth will out and we'll be able to assess what he achieved or didn't achieve and Cuba will- presumably- finally emerge from its time-warp into the twenty-first century world.

As for Pakistan- that's one unhappy country and a new government won't necessarily change things for the better. But, hooray- anyway- for an election that wasn't rigged!

My guess is that, with the main man gone, Cuba's leaders will seek to normalise relations with the USA and make the transition from one party rule to some sort of democracy.
