I calculated the distance at 30 miles but it turned out to be more like 60 and the light was going by the time we reached Avebury. Unlike Stonehenge- the worst managed tourist attraction in the country- Avebury attracts only those who care for her- and the magic is unspoiled.
i got a real buzz @ Stonehenge.. but I agree it as to close to the road... I can't wait to go to Avebury...we keep planning it but something happens to stop us. I have some friends who said they got so much from it.. both negative and good...1 friend said that it really disturbed her...
many years I go I had a vision and described a place... which some have said was Avebury.. so I am keen to go see..
We have the time at the moment as Lou is out of work... but no funds....lol oh well when the time is right!
People have weird experiences at Avebury- and there's one stone- I've no idea which- which is said to have a really bad vibe.
You get a real sense of continuity- of layers of time. There's the Henge- and then there's the "modern" village with its medieval church and Jacobethan manor house. It's astonishing that people actually live there- with the stones as their neighbours
Probably the Devil's Chair, I'd guess. It's had a bad rep for centuries. Although one of the stones in the *thinks hard to remember directions* Northeastern quadrant? --- the area that had most of the stones removed, anyway --- is pretty crabby and doesn't like people much.
Not sure; I'd need to see it in a wider shot that showed more of its background. My own 5 rolls of pics from Avebury are packed away right now so I can't go look at them to check. It's been four and a half years so I don't trust unaided memory!
