That's about what I imagine England's skies to look like 95% of the time in winter.

And you're not far wrong.

It's nice to see such a packed parking lot for a library!

Ah....that's a little misleading.

This was taken from the supermarket car park- though I suspect library patrons use it too- we certainly have.

When was this built, and what's with the blue lights?

The latest thinking is that campus libraries, especially, should have curtain walls with lots of glass and be lighted inside at night so they'll shine like beacons. The librarian at the Bodleian said so in a talk she gave here a couple weeks ago, so it must be so.

It was opened about a year ago. The blue lights are simply decoration- as far as I'm aware. Pretty, aren't they?

Do the blue lights flash, move or blink in any way? I see some vertical strips that aren't lit up and was wondering if the lights alternated. It's certainly an interesting building for a library. Dismal day!

They don't blink, but they can be lit in different combinations- so the pattern you see changes from night to night.

Yes, it's been a foul day.

That building makes my heart sing; also the grey skies remind me of Seattle. I imagine I'd feel right at home in England.

It's great, isn't it? Oldham is the out of a way place and its new architecture hasn't received the kind of attention- and praise- it deserves.

Seattle- Manchester- they're both North Western cities.

Cool!
