What's Sauce For The Goose...
Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones is having his autobiography serialised in the Mail.
(No, I don't buy the Mail. My in-laws do and they give us their old copies to line the rabbits' litter trays)
Ron is a bad boy. He and George Harrison (no, not my saintly George!) did a bit of wife swapping back in the day, Keith Richards drew a derringer on Ron, so he drew his Magnum, the whole pack of them were gobbling down Class A drugs like there was no tomorrow.
And it builds the legend. This is what rockers do.
But if a little girl like Britney tries to live like a Rolling Stone- phew- the moralising, the long lenses, the lip-licking disapproval.
I'm not saying I like it how Britney is living her life- or Kate Moss or Amy Winehouse. All I'm saying is- equality of censure.

I get very angry when that double standard rears its ugly head. I guess it still sells the rags, though.

And it's not just inequality between male and female. If Ron had been a poor, black man he'd probably have spent most of his life behind bars.
IMHO...
Re: IMHO...
I'm prepared to cut a person more slack if if he/she's an important artist. For instance I'm prepared to forgive John Lennon things that I find tacky in Ron Wood- because Lennon was a genius and Wood is just a geezer who knows a few guitar chords.

How many people, I wonder, have heard the story of the Eric Clapton/Patti Boyd Harrison/George Harrison triangle and felt sorry for the two men but thought Patti was a pig for having an affair with and later marrying Eric? And now, of course, they will think less of her because of this little revelation.
The gun play stuff? That sounds like retarded adolescence. Guy stuff.
Yes, indeed, equality of censure does require equality of stature. (to say nothing of talent, which seems to have little to do with this whole thing.)

Keith Richards has/had a thing about weapons and was prone to drug-fuelled rages. Not really the cool, laid back dude the legend says he is.
I read an interviw with Patti Boyd the other day. I forget exactly what she's doing these days, but it seems she's a survivor.
George
Re: George
"Are you a mod or a rocker?"
"Neither. I'm a mocker."

Re: George
But he doesn't seem to be the resentful, does he?
I know he's had his troubles but, from what little we know of him, he seems like a decent and likeable man.

There is a theory that bipolar disorder is very much linked to artistic creativity and that's why so many very bright and creative people are at best flamboyant and at worst self-destructive. Booze and drugs and general risk taking are attempts to self-medicate the depressive periods. However, britney is just a manipulated little girl who had been given everything she wanted, and is not smart enough to figure out that not everything she wanted is good for her. Kids like that need protection.

Yes.
And it's a old, old story. Being a child star is a bit like playing Russian roulette. Some of them come through, but a lot don't make it- or at least not with their sanity intact.
