My favourite shot from yesterday. Llandudno is delightfully traditional. Not only donkey rides but also a Punch and Judy man. 



I like this one too.



And, finally- the Cheshire cat.  Alice Liddel (the original Alice in Wonderland) used to holiday in Llandudno and the Happy Valley gardens on the Great Orme are scattered with these delightful wood carvings of Wonderland characters.

All these pictures are marvelous! It's so unlike what I, as a Mid-Atlantic North American, think of as the beach or the seaside; we don't get cliffs and mountains and trees, or if we once did, they've been leveled a hundred years ago. I just came back from Atlantic City, and they've built up dunes the whole length of the boardwalk and planted grasses on them to prevent the little bit of beach that remains from just washing away.

We do have resorts like Atlantic City- in fact most of the really big ones- like Brighton and Blackpool- have straight waterfronts and not very wonderful beaches.
