Free At Last
May. 4th, 2007 05:14 pmI've just read Kurt Vonnegut's Man Without a Country (it took me about an hour) and it's a lot like Byron's Don Juan- which I'm part way through. In both of them you've got a famous writer who's nearing the end of his life (Did Byron know this? Yes, I think he did) and he's cutting loose and turning cartwheels and if the reader doesn't like it s/he can go sulk. The Vonnegut is not much more than a doodle and Don Juan is a masterpiece but both have about them this feeling that school's out.
