Free At Last

I've just read Kurt Vonnegut's Man Without a Country (it took me about an hour) and it's a lot like Byron's Don Juan- which I'm part way through.   In both of them you've got a famous writer who's nearing the end of his life (Did Byron know this? Yes, I think he did) and he's cutting loose and turning cartwheels and if the reader doesn't like it s/he can go sulk.  The Vonnegut is not much more than a doodle and Don Juan is a masterpiece but both have about them this feeling that school's out.

Wow. Now I wanna read them! But I'm stuck on a self-help book by a woman who fancies herself a poet and is sooo verbose I can't get throughhhhh it and I refuse to leave it unfinished and violate my new year's resolution to finish everything I start! Ughhh!!!

That's a very bad New Year's Resolution. You should break it forthwith

No, no, it's really important. It's helping me keep focused on my writing and career choices and my educational goals... it's good! I just need to finish this damn book!
