And that's why I care about this silly stuff. I'm looking for a chink in the walls that Darwin and Huxley and all that crew have built up around us.

Outer plane checks consist of a situation where you receive some piece of information or knowledge from inner plane sources (whether you're told it by an entity, or intuit it, or dream about it, or see it in a divination) which you would have no way of knowing on your own, and about which you later receive confirmation through an event or piece of news in the material world.


A few examples (all of which actually happened):

You're short of money and have an income tax payment coming up. You do a divination about trying to get a second job to earn the money you'll need. The divination says no, you'll get the money you need without that step. A few days later you receive a check in the mail for $1000 because your publisher has just sold the foreign rights to one of your books, which they had not told you about previously, and this sum covers your tax bill with enough left over to pay the income taxes on the check itself.

An inner plane entity warns you that you will shortly need to do some home repairs, and that although they appear small they will actually be quite critical. A week or so later, a heavy and unseasonal rainstorm accompanied by freak high winds reveals a leak in the roof. On examination the leak proves to be dripping water onto the main electrical cable coming into the house, soaking the surrounding insulation and creating a severe fire hazard.

You wake from a dream in which you received a violent blow on the head, and have the absolute conviction that something has happened to your brother. When you reach a family member by telephone several hours later, you find out your brother sustained a serious head injury at approximately the time you awoke.


That's the sort of thing the phrase "outer plane check" is usually used for. Occasionally it turns out to be something much bigger than that, such as premonitory visions of events like the sinking of the Titanic, 9/11, or the Christmas tsunami, but those are much rarer than the more mundane variety.

Thanks. I've had those sort of things happen to me, but I've not had a name for them.

Back in the day when I was a practising occultist/witch I found they happened so frequently that I accepted them as everyday occurences and promptly forgot about them afterwards. Since I "retired" they happen much less often. Is it because I've closed down the portals or simply because I'm not on the look out any more? I suspect the former.

It seems as though the universe accomodates itself to a person's belief system. If you're a magician it behaves magically around you and if you're Richard Dawkins it doesn't.

Rather than just the former, I would say both.

You're right about the universe. But then that's another piece of evidence for magic, in a way, because each person is manifecting their deepest belief system down the planes into material reality.
