Saint Elvis

Pictures of the early Elvis- in the months before the army took him away from us.

How young he is and what bad skin he has.

And how vulnerable and uncertain he looks when he's not posing for publicity shots.

On the Steve Allen show they dress him up in stetson and chaps and have him sing to a bassett hound and you can see him thinking, "these bastards are taking the piss, but one day I shall be revenged."

Perhaps some part of his course was to pursue such satisfaction, too bad the process ultimately consumed him. I prefer stories in which the vengeful escape.

Yeah, it was a hollow victory.

I don't think Elvis ever realised just how good he was. He let his talent be frittered away in Vegas casinos and crap movies and didn't seem to notice how far he'd travelled from his early greatness.
