Watching Dr Who- And Doing It Legally
May. 23rd, 2024 07:44 amWe were dog-sitting last night for Miriam and Edna. They have a TV- and we don't- also a TV licence, which allowed us to watch a couple of episodes of the new Disney-augmented Dr Who- and do it legally
I thought the Chibnall era was awful. Now that Russell Davies is back at the helm the show is once again what we want it to be- imaginative, clever, funny, occasionally mind-expanding. The Disney money allows for grander special effects- though I don't think they're needed- and Ncuti Gatwa is fine as the Doctor. One of the episodes we watched was Stephen Moffat's "Boom" which cheekily immobilises this hyperactive, very physical Doctor- and has him reduced to acting with face and voice. I have mixed feelings about Moffat, but he's the best writer of the New Who era- and this was an excellent script...
