The Pink Portrait
May. 18th, 2024 08:37 am I've looked at the King's new portrait. And I've looked again.
I've visited Jonathan Yeo's website and looked at his other work.
I've read what people are saying. Jonathan Jones (predictably) hates, hates, hates it.
And I know that Royal Portraits are an sich iconic and it's natural to read deep meanings into them.
But I'm not seeing or feeling the blood and hellfire that others are seeing and feeling. I don't think there's anything sinister about it.
What I'm thinking, honestly, is that the face reminds me of the face of Geoffery Palmer- an actor who made a career out of playing pompous but loveable old stick-in-the-muds,
That the butterfly is a little silly-
And that all that wonderful pinkness looks good enough to eat.....
