Gulls Rule
Apr. 23rd, 2024 07:45 am The gulls are soaking grasses and leaves in the birdbath to turn them into malleable glop for nest building. At first I didn't understand- and cleared the stuff out- but now I do- and am letting it be- because gulls rule and take precedence. Other birds who want to drink and have a paddle will have to cope with the glop or wait until the nesting season's over.
As in previous years we have an alpha pair who commandeer the scraps we put out and don't step too far out of my way when I walk down the garden path. I haven't worked out where they're nesting yet but it's likely to be on one of the nearby chimney stacks. Our own stack was enclosed in a wire cage to keep birds away by the dogs in a manger who lived here before us....
