One of our speakers proposed giving us a "lesson" in Esperanto and I was sitting on the front row. She spoke a phrase, then asked me to repeat it- me, in advance of everyone else- and I experienced the old classroom terror of being picked out and made to look a fool.... I'm 73- and still afraid of Teacher.... It was a good presentation. Also fun. Sort of.  But only if you used to be teacher's pet.  Esperanto is easy to learn, rational, and brings people from different cultures together. Yes. Tick, tick, tick. So absolutely a good thing. But still, I maintain, simply a hobby and one I no more intend to get into than I mean to start collecting beer mats....
