Imagine There's No Countries
Jul. 1st, 2006 09:29 am"It's a big day for sport," says Ailz. This translates as, "There's an English football team playing a match in Germany and a Scottish guy playing a match at Wimbledon". I plan to do my best not to get suckered into watching either of them.
Because, really, I don't care whether the home side wins or loses. This is especially true in the case of the Scottish guy , who is one of those raw-boned, shock-headed Scots who gets his sense of identity out of rubbishing everything English. I understand why the Scots might hate the English, but my magnanimity falls short of finding it endearing.
But then I don't find fat young men with red crosses painted on their faces endearing either. I'm backing France to win the World Cup (but not with any great enthusiasm after watching Thierry Henri take a dive against Spain the other day) and that nice Swiss Bloke in the cream coloured jacket to win Wimbledon.

He's MY sentimental favorite.
