Wind, Rain And Fire
Nov. 4th, 2023 07:13 am The storm abated yesterday- to the extent that it allowed us a walk along the promenade. The stones the waves had chucked up over the railings had been shovelled or bulldozed back onto the beach. We had lunch at the Beach Deck cafe, which has picture windows looking out to sea.
(I had a dream about stones being thrown at me last night. They mostly missed. Then I got up my courage and threw them back...)
The storm- or family of storms- has returned in full force today. The cat insisted on going out into the garden. The cat came running back in.
A lot of damage has been caused along this coast- and out to sea on the Channels Islands. Eastbourne seems to have got off fairly lightly. I think the Downs protect us.
This is Bonfire weekend. Our house is on high ground to the east of town (all of 50 feet above sea level) with a panoramic view westwards. I watched a display yesterday evening. It wasn't the town's official display because it was in quite the wrong place, but whoever it was had spent a hell of a lot of money.
I love fireworks....
