Moving Fast
We've had an offer on the house and we've made an offer ourselves-on a house in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey.
We now enter a period of uncertainty. Anything or everything could fall through. Nothing has been signed, no money has changed hands.
The house in Sheerness is about the same age as this one and a little smaller. The big selling point is that you cross the road, climb over the flood defences and there's the sea...

One of these days, I will live by the sea...
I hope it all works out.

Actually, it's very good for me to have you on my friends list, pushing forward with your move like this. It spurs me to further action myself! I've been able to make some fair progress this week, as I finally got my book to the publisher on Monday, and have also finished most of my work for Warwick now. But still, I'm lagging way behind you two. :)

But the system isn't. Moving house is such a slow, laborious, expensive business.
I now have to cultivate patience.....

aheppeyscum.com which as the name
suggests is an odd sort of site...
is it a problem to be more isolated
from London etc? a friend is buying
a house in Spain for future retirement
in the mountains and it is a good buy
but I am not sure he will want to
actually live there without New York
just nearby...but this is certainly
beautiful...the sea just there
perhaps richer than a city...
ah called up map
it looks in fact not remote.

The island is isolated- but only by the standards of the South of England (where everything is squashed up close together).

I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Even so, I myself remain determined not to have to go through all that. This is my first house as a grownup, we've been here 10 years, and we'd like to stay here until we die (or move into a retirement condo at, say, age 85)... But that is just us! (and perhaps our luck in having such an ideal place to begin with)

What a neat place, I hope both offers go through and you get what you want.

I love the sea. But I never thought I'd be able to afford a seaside home.

I never thought there would be any sort of parity between house prices here and anywhere in the affluent south east.

May all blessings bring you to this place!

And now it's out of our hands....

Lots of cool photos.

The webcam looks as though it may have been set up just yards from where I took my picture.

There was another, old picture of sailing ships docking at the beach. The pilings or whatever they are were immediately recognizable. The caption was something about Sheppey being a nice place to bathe.
I'm glad you are moving to this place of peace. I do hope you don't find it boring.
When my brother got married, we were at his inlaws for a barbeque, on Tybee Island, near Savannah. That's all marshland. In the late afternoon, I was amused to watch some people rowing through what looked like a huge field behind their house. By evening, the tide had come in and only one spit of their property ("the point" was uncovered by water. I'd never been a fan of marshes till then. I hope you are able to enjoy many tides in your new place.
