The weather was dull over the weekend with a fair bit of rain, but the sun came out while we were in the churchyard for the committal. And the birds sang. We make our own reality. We really do. Absolutely.

The woman was sitting outside the railway station with a begging bowl. I made a contribution and she said, "Socks thanks you." Socks is her ferret. I got to pet him- and then had to run for the bus because I'd lingered too long.

My phone made a shrill buzzing noise mid-afternoon and I remembered that the government had said it was going to be testing its early warning system. God only knows why we need an early-warning system. What do they want us to do? Dive under the nearest table? Run for the hills? I am displeased that they have access to all our phones and a little puzzled (or maybe not) that the voice that came on after the nasty noise spoke with an American accent. We were asked if we wanted to receive future warnings and I ticked the box that said, "No". If I could have added an exclamation mark I'd have done so. The fewer dealings I have with government the better.

A guy where we lived previously had a couple of ferrets and they got their walkies on a lead.

Given the Romani ancestry, I have a soft spot! :o)

I was surprised by the American accent, too, but I later read in the Guardian that "some phones read out the message" which suggests to me that the choice of accent was down to the device rather than the government.
