Scaffolding

poliphilo We now have scaffolding at the back of the house. If I wanted to- which I don't- I could climb out the bedroom window onto boards, then down a ladder into the back garden.
I wasn't watching the clock but I reckon the scaffolders had the job done in a couple of hours. They were three young men- one of them remarkably tall- and they had a radio with them which played music I didn't relate to.
When they were gone our builder came over- from his house across the road- to say he hoped they hadn't been too noisy or used too much bad language. "Scaffolders," he said, "Are a law unto themselves..."
We assured him they'd been no trouble at all.
"You know why he's fussing over us," said Ailz.
"No," I said.
"Because he sees us as old people...."
