When you have colourful things in your past- and I do (a bit)- people want you to talk about those things- and sometimes you're in an indulgent mood and sometimes you really don't want to make the effort of putting yourself back into a time frame when you were a very different person from the one you are now...

I have an elderly friend who has problems with short term memory and he keeps asking me the same questions about the things I did thirty years ago and I'm getting to be terse in my responses.

I was sorting through papers yesterday and came across some letters from the colourful period that related to incidents I'd edited out of the narrative I tell myself (and others if I'm in the mood). They went in the shredder. If there were lessons to be learned I learned them then. No need to dwell...
