 Judy says the Clintons are coming to town (her town being Nashville, Tennessee) and she means to attend one of their functions. I believe she's still a true believer but I don't mean to prod or pry because we've fallen out about politics in the past- once occasioning a three-year hiatus in our friendship- and I don't want to go down that road again. If she chooses to talk to me about Bill and Hillary I'll nod along and keep it under my hat (my modish Peaky Blinders cap) that I think of them as a contemporary version of the Borgias (only worse).

Will anyone in Nashville ask Bill about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein? I doubt it. I doubt it would be safe....

Ailz volunteered herself, in a careless moment of people-pleasing, to go to the Women's World Day of Prayer event at Our Lady of Ransom this afternoon. I said I'd wheel her in, then decamp to Camilla's bookshop across the road. I don't see much point in trying to fight my allergy to organised religion. There are times when even free-as-a-bird Quakerism makes me sneeze- and Heaven knows what exposure to full strength Catholicism might do...
