1. Gravity's Rainbow is one long, relentless fever-dream. If the experience of living through World War II was really like this (and Pynchon is imagining not reporting; he wasn't actually there) it's no wonder our parents didn't want to talk about it.

2, If books were soup then G R would be a really thick broth. You could stand your spoon up in it. I sometimes think I'd rather be supping minestrone but then I think no, not really. Better something that sticks to your ribs than something that passes straight through your system...

I liked Gravity's Rainbow, but I found it incredibly difficult to read. Not pleasure reading.

Trufax: I read Gravity's Rainbow to avoid reading Delaney's Dhalgren and Genet's Querelle of Brest. It really can get worse.
