Judy, who is Jewish, writes about being approached by this little blond kid- Tennessee through and through- who is angsting about having been cast as a fast-talking Jewish entrepreneur in his school play and is terrified of committing Jew-face. She tells him to stop worrying, have fun- and watch Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks doing their 1000 year old man schtick in order to get a line on the rhythms of Jewish comedy.

Funny old times we're going through- with everybody tiptoeing around everybody else in fear of causing offence- and far too many of us ready to go ballistic over the slightest cultural misstep- but we'll get through it and come out the other side and be easy with one another once again. Someone I was reading or listening too- I wish I could claim it as an original thought but I can't- not honestly- said humanity's at the pupal stage- where the caterpillar liquifies itself and starts again from scratch before emerging as a butterfly. Right now we're just goo- and it ain't pretty- but it'll be worth it in the end....

I got Wordle in two. I don't know how I did it. I had only one letter guessed right at my first attempt and it wasn't even in the right place.

We have sunshine, we have daffodils: what more could we possibly want?

Victimhood has become such a thing.

Yes, and it's not a healthy state of mind. OK, some people really are victims- but to cultivate a victim mentality is disempowering and/or passive-aggressive. Of course not everyone who could legitimately claim to be a victim does so- and they're the people I admire- the ones who take the knocks and refuse to go "Alas, poor me".

I know I complain occasionally but that's largely because I am not, NOT going to let the buggers beat me!

I've thought that the present tiptoeing around may put an end to acting as we know it today. After all, if you're not allowed to pretend to be someone you're not for theatrical purposes... doesn't that basically make acting a crime?

That would be the logical reductio ad absurdum.

But I think it's a blip. After all there's a counter movement in theatre where gender-blind and colour-blind casting has become quite normal- especially in the classics- and it's no longer considered odd to have people of colour playing medieval English kings- and cis-women playing Hamlet and King Lear.
