I caught up with some movies this week

I was expecting The Grand Budapest Hotel to be more sophisticated than it is. The setting may be Noel Coward but the action is Whacky Races. Nothing wrong with fast-paced cartoony action, of course- and Ralph Fiennes is lovely.

I quite liked Parasite so I watched Snowpiercer and quite liked that too. I spent the first half going "Who the hell is the psycho with the north country accent?" And the second half going "Oh my God it's Tilda Swinton! Ain't she wonderful!"

Fritz Lang's M is a movie I've been meaning to watch for decades. It's a museum piece. I was expecting Peter Lorre to have much more screen time than he does. Also I didn't expect him to be so stagey...

I, too, found The Grand Budapest Hotel to be not at all the film I was expecting - not that I can really say what I was expecting - but it is fun.
