Red sky in the morning

The Eastern sky was ruby red this morning but if stormy weather is on the way there's no sign of it yet. The sun is shining, the air is still and the temperature is well up into double figures...

I walked round the lower field. The brambles are still trying to trip me, the horses have mashed up the dam I made to contain my now silted pond- but these things will very soon cease to be my responsibility...

The New Year's Honours List has been published. There's a Damehood for Vanessa Redgrave- no longer a rampaging Trot but that nice old lady off Call The Midwife- and the amusing gift to Daniel Craig of an obscure gong which was once awarded fictitiously to the fictitious James Bond. The Covid gloomsters- Chris Whitty et al- get knighthoods and so does a hedge fund manager you've never heard of because he's a philanthropist who gave all his money away to the poor a million quid to the Conservative party And Camilla Parker-Bowles and Tony Blair are going to be Garter Knights because a lot of water has passed under the bridge and we have all long since forgotten about Diana Spencer and the second Iraq War...

I resigned from the Labour Party over that (and the Kelly Affair) so no, I haven't long since forgotten........

I think the population divides into older people who remember the various shameful things he did- and younger people who don't care about him one way or the other.

But the elite aren't going to be fazed by this. He's one of their own- and they'll give him his knighthood anyway- even though he'd be in danger of citizen's arrest if he ever showed up on a British street without his hired muscle.
