We interrupt this programme for a message from our sponsor.

I used to keep my bread in a breadbin.

Never again.

I now keep it in a cloth bag with a plastic lining.

Seriously folks, it keeps my bread fresh for at least twice as long!

There are three of us in this house. Ailz and I eat one kind of bread, Joe eats another and we get through loads of croissants.

I will always swear by the old-fashioned earthenware bread crocks, even if I (sadly) don't have one myself.

I've never tried one of those.

They sound picturesque.

I've never heard of or seen one, but it makes sense to me, because they breathe but wouldn't let the bread get stale.

I don't quite know how it works. Would a plastic bag without cloth on the outside do as well?

No. Sometimes I use a paper bag in a plastic bag; that works moderately well. There's something about the two layers that works well. Earthenware *has* two layers--the permeable inside and the less permeable outside.

Ooh, that is just what I need, as my breadmaker loaves are too square to fit most breadbins. (Did it come from Lakeland Plastics, by any chance?)

we get through bread at such a phenomenal rate, ours barely gets as far as the breadbin before it gets devoured.

Mmmm, fresh bread.
